Monster Energy became Aprilia Racing’s multi-year MotoGP sponsor, with the partnership announced during the Grand Prix of Italy and set to launch in 2026, and Monster slated to assume official title-sponsor status in 2027. Aprilia described Monster as its first-ever title sponsor and the deal ends Aprilia’s run without a title partner since the squad became a full factory team in 2022. Aprilia CEO Massimo Rivola called the deal a milestone for the Noale-based manufacturer. Monster Senior Vice President Mitch Covington said the company sees MotoGP as a key global platform and that the partnership advances Monster’s MotoGP presence. The announcement coincided with Jorge Martín putting his personal Red Bull sponsorship on hold and Red Bull branding disappearing from his Aprilia gear; reports said Monster will join Martín’s Aprilia team as the title partner.
The sponsorship comes as Aprilia enjoyed a period of sporting dominance, opening 2026 with three straight Grand Prix wins, reaching the podium in each of the season’s first five races and recording a 1-2-3 at the French Grand Prix. Marco Bezzecchi and Jorge Martín combined for multiple wins and were first and second in the 2026 rider standings, separated by 15 points, while Aprilia led the manufacturer and team standings. The deal strengthens Aprilia’s commercial positioning at a moment of heightened sporting visibility. The announcement also arrived amid wider commercial speculation, since Monster currently remains Yamaha’s factory title sponsor and Yamaha’s arrangement with Monster has been the subject of reporting that it could change around 2027.

Razgatlioglu calls Sachsenring his worst MotoGP weekend
Toprak Razgatlioglu said MotoGP’s constantly changing tires have made his first season difficult, and he called the Sachsenring German Grand Prix his worst race so far. The Turkish rider said he is still learning the bike and Michelin tires after coming from World Superbikes on Pirelli rubber, and that different specifications and asymmetric compounds at each circuit have hurt his confidence and motivation. He said MotoGP’s planned switch to Pirelli next year could help his adaptation.
At the Sachsenring, Razgatlioglu qualified 18th, finished 17th in the Sprint and described the weekend as a lost one. He said he struggled with tire management, repeated tire slip and setup on the tight, twisty track, and he had not raced at the circuit since 2014. In the main race, he kept losing ground in the same corners, fell behind after a small mistake while trying to follow Alex Rins, and then rode alone for the rest of the contest.
Razgatlioglu finished effectively last in the German Grand Prix, 38 seconds behind winner Marc Marquez and 6.5 seconds behind Alex Rins, the nearest Yamaha rider. He said being overtaken by stand-in LCR rider Cal Crutchlow was a low point, and he was surprised by Crutchlow’s Honda, which he said turned better and had more grip than his Yamaha. Razgatlioglu said he was disappointed not to reward the Turkish fans who supported him, and that the only positive was learning what he will need if he returns to Sachsenring next year. He has collected 12 points in the first half of his maiden MotoGP season, and he benefited from five retirements as well as the absences of injured Fermin Aldeguer and Marco Bezzecchi.
Phillip Island MotoGP exit sparks heritage warning
Bob Barnard, who designed both the Phillip Island and Adelaide Grand Prix layouts, has warned that two of motorcycling’s best-known venues could be lost forever as MotoGP prepares to leave Phillip Island for Adelaide in 2027. In an open letter, Barnard said the shift could undermine Phillip Island’s heritage value and argued that Adelaide’s revised layout would not replace the original circuit concept or Phillip Island’s status as one of motorsport’s most respected venues. He said the issue goes beyond racing, touching on motorsport, environmental heritage and land use, and placed Liberty Media and the South Australian government at the center of the decision.
MotoGP has confirmed the move to a new street circuit in Adelaide from 2027, following a deal reached with the South Australian Government in February that runs through 2032. Adelaide officials are redesigning the track to meet motorcycle safety requirements, in what has been described as the biggest change to the circuit since Barnard’s original 1985 Formula 1 layout, later shortened for Supercars in 1999. Reports also say officials may consider staging the race at night to suit European television audiences.
The final MotoGP race at Phillip Island is set for the 2026 Australian Grand Prix, after the series began racing there in 1997.
