Singapore GP Gets F1’s Final Sprint Weekend of 2026

NXTbets Pro | Published On: October 5, 2026

Singapore Sprint weekend

Round 17 of the 2026 Formula 1 season will take place at Marina Bay Street Circuit. Formula 1 will use the Sprint format at six of its 24 race weekends in 2026, and the list runs through China, Miami, Canada, Britain, the Netherlands and Singapore. That leaves Marina Bay at the end of the year’s Sprint rotation and gives the race weekend a sharp place on the calendar. In the UK, track action begins Friday.

Sprint format details

The weekend opens with one hour of practice on Friday, then Sprint Qualifying. Saturday brings the 100km Sprint and Grand Prix Qualifying. Sunday’s race is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. BST and will run 62 laps under the lights.

Sprint Qualifying keeps its shorter knockout structure, with 12-minute, 10-minute and eight-minute sessions. Teams must use one set of medium tires in SQ1 and SQ2, then one set of soft tires in SQ3. The Sprint awards points to the top eight finishers on an 8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 scale.

Sprint weekends usually have no mandatory pit stops. Teams can make setup changes after the Sprint before parc fermé resumes for Grand Prix qualifying. That gives the field one more chance to adjust before the main race-day fight starts.

Marina Bay challenge

Marina Bay brings the kind of street-circuit test that can expose any weakness quickly. The track has close barriers, 90-degree corners, difficult overtaking and high tire wear in hot conditions. Those features make it one of the toughest tracks on the calendar and put a premium on clean execution from the first session to the last.

Early forecasts call for thundery showers, light winds and temperatures around 33C. Conditions are expected to clear later in the racing sessions. That weather profile adds another layer to a weekend already packed with pressure, since teams must balance strategy, setup and tire management while the Sprint format keeps the action moving.
