Audi names Fuhr
Audi Formula Racing has named Thomas Fuhr as its new chief executive officer, giving the Formula 1 program a new leader as the team works through a major structural shift. Fuhr will lead Audi Formula Racing GmbH in Neuburg an der Donau, where the company is developing the team’s power unit, hybrid system and gearbox. The move restores a chief executive role that had been removed earlier, and it comes as Audi looks to steady and strengthen its F1 operation during its first winter break in the championship. Audi is also trying to climb from eighth place in the Constructors’ Championship, so the change arrives at a key point in the project’s buildout. The appointment is meant to let Stefan Dreyer focus more fully on power unit technical development, while Christian Foyer stays on as chief operating officer and continues overseeing day-to-day operations at Audi’s Neuburg site.
Fuhr brings experience
Fuhr arrives with more than 30 years of engineering and leadership experience, a background Audi believes fits the demands of building a competitive power unit program from the ground up. His résumé includes senior experience at Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains. That experience matters because Audi Formula Racing’s remit reaches beyond a single component. The team is responsible for the full power unit package, along with the hybrid system and gearbox, so the chief executive role covers both technical direction and organizational management. Mattia Binotto said Fuhr’s technical background and leadership experience will help further develop the organization. The appointment also reflects a clear effort to keep the company’s engineering priorities aligned with its broader racing plans, with leadership experience placed alongside technical understanding as a central part of the job.
Audi reshapes leadership
The management move also clarifies Audi’s long-term organizational direction. Binotto and Jürgen Rittersberger said the change strengthens the organization and underlines Audi’s long-term commitment to becoming a competitive Formula 1 power unit manufacturer. That message matches the structure of the program itself. Audi Formula Racing GmbH is not only building an engine, but also the hybrid system and gearbox that go with it, so the project depends on technical continuity as much as executive leadership. The reshaped leadership structure points to the next stage of Audi’s F1 push.
