Verstappen and Le Mans
Max Verstappen ruled out a Le Mans 24 Hours debut for now, saying the race is “not on my list for now.” He made the point in Baku before the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. He remains interested in other endurance events. He said a friendlier Formula 1 calendar could create space for major endurance races on off-weekends, and he pointed to the Le Mans test day clash with the Monaco Grand Prix as a real travel issue for F1 drivers. That is why the timing matters to him. Le Mans remains a possible future option, but it does not fit his immediate plan.
Nürburgring and Spa
The races Verstappen keeps coming back to are Nürburgring and Spa. Asked about his endurance plans, he said, “Nurburgring and Spa, probably,” and he called Spa-Francorchamps “an exciting option.” He also said he wants another run at the Nordschleife. His recent Nürburgring 24 Hours effort ended with a driveshaft failure while he was leading. He said he is more interested in the Nürburgring 24 Hours and the Spa 24 Hours than in taking a single shot at Le Mans.
GT plans and calendar
Verstappen’s bigger picture reaches beyond one event. He said a favorable Formula 1 schedule could let him stack several endurance races on off-weekends, and he named Daytona, Bathurst, the Texas 8 Hour, the Nürburgring 24 Hours, Le Mans and Spa as possible stops on a future route. He has also said he wants to return to GT cars, and his own Mercedes-AMG GT3 team could make that realistic. A possible tie-in with Ford through Red Bull could help as well. The full Intercontinental GT Challenge would not be possible because the 1000km of Suzuka would clash with the Italian Grand Prix. Fernando Alonso has already said a Verstappen-Le Mans partnership could happen in the future if Verstappen gets more calendar freedom, which lines up with the direction Verstappen described. For now, he is looking at endurance racing as a collection of targets, not one grand debut. Le Mans stays on the outside of that plan, but the rest of the endurance map is still in view.
