Verstappen powered Red Bull to Singapore win and back-to-back victories

Singapore Win

Max Verstappen gave Red Bull another lift in Singapore, where he won the Grand Prix on his 250th Formula 1 start and turned pole position into victories in both the Sprint and the race. The result followed Red Bull’s win in Malaysia and gave the team back-to-back victories. Laurent Mekies said Verstappen’s technical sensitivity is outstanding and said the driver has played a massive role in the team’s comeback. Mekies said Verstappen’s feedback has helped engineers identify the RB22’s weaknesses and sharpen work on both the chassis and the power unit. He also pointed to the direct, transparent relationship between the driver and the team as a major boost. That connection has helped Red Bull build momentum.

Red Bull’s Upgrade Push

Red Bull’s resurgence has come from steady chassis gains and stronger power-unit performance. Mekies said the team made gradual improvements to the car, with the biggest jump coming from better energy harvesting and deployment. Those gains made the RB22 more driveable after upgrade packages arrived in Austria and Azerbaijan. The Austria package was an eight-area update that included changes to the floor, sidepods, rear suspension and rear wing. Red Bull did not find one magic fix. The team stacked smaller gains until the car responded better over a race weekend. It also gave Red Bull a firmer grip on the fight for third place in the constructors’ standings, where the team sits within seven points of McLaren.

Mekies’ Next Step

Mekies said Red Bull have finished this season’s upgrade program and are already focusing on 2027. That does not mean the team will coast through the rest of the year. Mekies said Red Bull still want to learn from the remaining races and take as much information as they can from each weekend. He also said the team is not getting carried away by the recent rebound. The competitive order can change quickly if rivals bring upgrades of their own, and Red Bull know the gap can shift from one event to the next. Mekies framed the comeback around the same themes throughout the story, Verstappen’s feedback, gradual chassis development and the step forward in power-unit performance. The result is a team that has climbed back into race-winning form and into a tighter championship battle, with the Singapore result underlining how much ground Red Bull have made up.
