Hautacam may be the venue where Tadej Pogačar won the grandest event in cycling for a fourth time. Of course, that suggestion is premature because anything can happen, but Pogi snatched the yellow jersey to open a substantial lead on his opponents. The Slovenian captures most of the headlines in our 2025 Tour de France stage 12 report, but we also have a jersey change in the youth classification to discuss.
TadejPogačar sat up for his 20th Tour de France stage win, and it was among his finest rides, if that’s even possible. The Slovenian attacked with around seven miles left to the summit of Hautacam, the climb where Jonas Vingegaard dropped him in 2022. On that occasion, he crossed 1:04 behind his Danish rival. Today was personal, and Jonas had no answer to Pogačar’s attack, eventually finishing runner-up by 2:10. This demolition of the Tour contingent has set him up well for the coming stages, as the race works its way towards Paris.
General Classification
Stage 12 was tough for most rider’s but Ben Healy couldn’t stand up to the pace of Pogi and Jonas, relinquishing the leader’s jersey and slipping outside of the top 10 in the GC. Pogačar’s stage win propelled him to the top of the standings, and he’ll now don the yellow jersey when the Tour sets off from Loudenvielle on Friday. The three-time Tour Champion holds a 3:31 lead over Vingegaard in the standings, with Evenepoel 4:45 back.
King of the Mountains
Pogačar features again in the KOM discussion, equalling Lenny Martinez on 27 points. Canadian Michael Woods had a successful day in the saddle, securing 11 points to propel him into third in the race for the polka dot jersey.
Youth Classification
Remco Evenepoel rode home in seventh place today, 3:35 behind the stage winner. His efforts were rewarded with the white jersey, which he snatched from Ben Healy. Despite Remco’s ascendancy, the young rider who impressed the most was Florian Lipowitz. He powered up Hautacam to close in on Jonas Vingegaard, but in the end, settled for third. The German is now 49 seconds adrift of Evenepoel, and proving a serious contender for the battle of the youngsters.
Team Classification
Team Visma-Lease A Bike remains in control of the group competition, but they lost 2:05 to the UAE Team Emirates XRG today. Shedding a couple of minutes still results in a commanding lead of 17:15.
