No. 1 plates
The AMA released its 2027 national number list for the Monster Energy SuperMotocross World Championship, setting rider numbers across AMA Supercross, AMA Pro Motocross and the SMX Playoffs. The governing body said defending champions would use No. 1 plates in the class or region where they won their title, a rule that keeps the championship plate tied to the series where the title came from. That gave the top number a split life across the schedule, with some riders carrying a No. 1 plate in one championship while holding a separate career number in another. Jorge Prado, Levi Kitchen and Hunter Lawrence all fit that setup. Prado was set to wear No. 1 in the SMX Playoffs to defend his 450SMX title. Kitchen was set to use No. 47 before defending his 250SMX title as No. 1 in the SMX Playoffs. Lawrence was set to race Supercross as No. 96 before switching to No. 1 for Pro Motocross. The list gave each of those title defenses its own identity while keeping the champion’s mark in place where it belongs.
New career numbers
Several riders locked in new career numbers for the next cycle. Cole Davies chose No. 5 as his new career number, a clean change at the top end of the board. Ryder DiFrancesco moved to No. 10, while Prado also selected No. 61 as his new career number even as he prepared to defend his 450SMX title with No. 1 in the playoffs. Chance Hymas passed on No. 13 and ran No. 16. Landen Gordon made one of the bigger jumps on the list, going from No. 180 to No. 42. The new assignments continued with Michael Mosiman moving to No. 29, Jordon Smith shifting to No. 31, Cameron McAdoo taking No. 63 and Kyle Peters moving to No. 76. Each of those changes gave the riders a fresh identity on the entry sheet and on the bike for the 2027 season, while the AMA’s list set the order in which those numbers would appear from one series to the next.
Number board
The lower half of the number board also came into focus with a mix of new assignments and holdovers. Sacha Coenen earned No. 64 and Lucas Coenen took No. 79, giving both riders clear spots in the national lineup. Roan Van De Moosdijk was set to hold No. 99, the final double-digit number on the list. Haiden Deegan moved to the 450 class and was set to run No. 38 all season, a change that placed him on the bigger-bike side of the championship ladder. Kyle Chisholm kept No. 11 with a waiver, preserving his number for another year. Put together, the list ran from the title plates down through the career numbers and into the final open spots, and it gave the championship field a full reset ahead of the 2027 action across Supercross, Pro Motocross and the SMX Playoffs.
