  • Binder swaps MotoGP for BMW's title chase in WorldSBK

Binder swaps MotoGP for BMW’s title chase in WorldSBK

Brad Binder will join BMW’s factory WorldSBK team in 2027, replacing Danilo Petrucci and partnering former KTM teammate Miguel Oliveira. BMW confirmed the move and said Binder wanted a new challenge and a chance to fight for the world title. Binder called it “a new adventure” and said he was excited to “start from zero.”

The switch will end Binder’s factory KTM MotoGP ride when his contract expires after the 2026 season. He has spent most of his career in the grand prix paddock, starting in 2011 in the 125cc class, and he joined KTM’s MotoGP program in 2020. Binder is currently 13th in the 2026 standings, has two MotoGP wins for KTM, and his best grand prix finish is seventh. He said he still has half a season left in MotoGP.

BMW has won the last two WorldSBK titles and views Binder’s MotoGP experience as an asset ahead of the championship’s switch to Michelin tires in 2027. The team also pointed to his familiarity with Michelin rubber, although one report said he struggled to adapt to Michelin’s super-grippy rear tire in MotoGP. KTM has already reshaped its 2027 factory lineup with Alex Marquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio.

Alex Rins to leave MotoGP for four-wheel project in 2027

Alex Rins says he will leave MotoGP at the end of the season and move toward a four-wheel racing project in 2027, choosing a path he believes will motivate him more than continuing on two wheels. The Yamaha rider made the announcement on the eve of the San Marino Grand Prix, after losing his seat for next year.

Rins said he had offers to stay in motorcycle racing, including interest from WorldSBK teams such as GoEleven, but turned them down because he wants to pursue a “really interesting” project that is still undisclosed. The 29-year-old will end his grand prix career with six wins, five for Suzuki and one for LCR Honda, after about 14 years in the championship, and he said injuries and his move to Yamaha stalled his momentum.

  • Jacques Villeneuve Rejects F1 Legacy Narrative

Jacques Villeneuve Rejects F1 Legacy Narrative

Jacques Villeneuve said he never entered Formula 1 to extend the legacy of his father, Gilles Villeneuve, and rejected the media’s framing of him as the continuation of an unfinished family story. He said he raced because he loved racing, and that when he joined F1 in 1996 he wanted to compete for his own reasons rather than as an extension of his father’s name. He later stopped discussing the comparisons, saying the conversations were not constructive.

His comments came as a new biopic, Villeneuve: Rise of a Legend, prepared to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sept. 19. The film centers on Gilles Villeneuve’s early career before his Ferrari years and is scheduled to open in Quebec in November, with a global rollout planned for next year. The project is also being discussed around the 50th anniversary of Gilles Villeneuve’s Formula 1 debut.

Jacques Villeneuve said he was 11 when Gilles Villeneuve died in qualifying for the 1982 Belgian Grand Prix, leaving him with only limited memories of his father. He said the film helps fill in gaps from his childhood and clarifies confusing memories, and he believes it accurately portrays Gilles Villeneuve’s formative years. He also said he learned from his father’s self-belief, risk-taking and determination, and that his own upbringing helped him calculate risks a little better.

Misano hosts tight MotoGP title fight as Bagnaia sets Ducati mark

MotoGP heads to the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli for Round 14, with the San Marino Grand Prix set to shape a tightly packed title fight. Jorge Martín leads the standings on 256 points, Marc Márquez is 19 points behind him, and Marco Bezzecchi is also in the mix as the front-runners arrive at one of the sport’s key home races. The 4.23-kilometer track has 16 corners, including the fast Curvone at Turn 11, and its clockwise layout is expected to test Aprilia on home soil.

Aprilia arrives with Martín and Bezzecchi looking to build on their Aragón form. Martín said Misano is special for Aprilia and its fans, and he wants to keep improving and fight for podiums on the RS-GP26 after a strong showing at Aragón, where he finished fifth in both races. Martín also won both the Sprint and the Grand Prix at Misano in 2023. Bezzecchi returns to his home circuit after taking two third-place finishes in Aragón, and he is still recovering from the injury he suffered at Sachsenring. He is aiming for another strong result in front of Italian supporters.

Márquez comes in after scoring maximum points at Aragón and said Misano will be tougher, though the track still suits him and Ducati’s home crowd can give him an extra boost. He has won at Misano five times, including the 2024 and 2025 San Marino Grands Prix. On the Ducati side, Francesco Bagnaia will make his 142nd MotoGP start for Ducati Corse on Sunday and move past Andrea Dovizioso’s 141 starts to become Ducati’s all-time leader in MotoGP starts. Bagnaia said he is not giving up after recent crashes and that the support of the Ducatisti can help him and the team rebound, with this weekend also set to be his final home race with Ducati.

Caden Kvapil is scheduled to make his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut at Bristol Motor Speedway on Sept. 17, driving the No. 76 Nor-Cal Equipment Rentals Chevrolet Silverado for Freedom Racing Enterprises. Trestles Pro opens Friday with fun-sized southwest swell

The Trestles Pro contest window is expected to open Friday the 11th with a fun-sized southwest swell that should bring 4- to 6-foot faces, with morning sets sometimes slightly overhead. South to southeast winds are expected to make conditions bumpy and crumbly at the start of the event.

Surf is forecast to ease through the weekend, with 4- to 5-foot waves on Saturday and 3- to 4-foot surf on Sunday. By Monday and Tuesday, smaller mixed swells in the 2- to 4-foot range are expected, along with lighter winds and cleaner mornings.

A stronger south-southwest pulse from a compact Central South Pacific low is forecast to arrive from the 16th through the 18th, bringing chest- to head-high surf and best sets that could be slightly overhead. By the final two days of the window, surf is expected to stay contestable in the chest-shoulder-high range, with some inconsistent head-high sets from fading and new swells.

  • Till could land Liverpool showcase if he beats Yoel Romero

Till could land Liverpool showcase if he beats Yoel Romero

BKFC boss Dave Feldman said Darren Till could be in line for a mega-fight at Anfield in Liverpool if he beats Yoel Romero in the BKFC 94 main event on Sept. 26 in Manchester, England. Feldman said the promotion would consider staging an event at the 61,000-seat stadium in Till’s hometown if he wins, putting a possible UK showcase at the center of Till’s next step in bare-knuckle fighting.

Till signed a three-fight BKFC deal in April and made a winning debut earlier this year, knocking out Aaron Chalmers after being dropped. BKFC still wants a fight with Mike Perry, but Perry’s shoulder injury has complicated that matchup, and Feldman also mentioned Michael “Venom” Page as another possible opponent.

Feldman said he would be interested in matching Page with Till after Dana White confirmed Page will not re-sign with the UFC. He called it a potential “tremendous all-English fight” in the UK and said BKFC would try to “force excitement” out of Page. Feldman added that he has worked with Page before and promoted Page’s close 2022 bout with Perry.
