Bagnaia and others suffered high rear-tyre wear late in the race. Bastianini joins Trackhouse for 2027 MotoGP season
Enea Bastianini will join Trackhouse for the 2027 MotoGP season on a two-year deal, with the team saying he will replace Ai Ogura and partner Raúl Fernández. Trackhouse announced the signing on Monday and said its 2027 lineup is now complete after extending Fernández earlier this month. Ogura is set to move to Yamaha’s factory team alongside 2024 champion Jorge Martin in MotoGP’s new 850cc era.
Bastianini will leave Red Bull KTM Tech3 at the end of this year after two difficult seasons. He joined Tech3 at the start of the 2025 campaign after a difficult spell with Ducati’s factory team, finished 14th in the riders’ championship in his first Tech3 season and scored one podium in two years. One season before joining Tech3, he finished fourth in the championship while riding for Ducati.
Trackhouse said Bastianini will begin working with the team at pre-season testing in Valencia after the 2026 season and will help develop Aprilia’s RS-GP prototype under new tires and regulations. Bastianini said he was excited for the new challenge and hoped to bring his experience and fighting spirit to the team. Trackhouse owner Justin Marks said Bastianini’s winning pedigree and top-level experience made him a strong fit as the team chases trophies.
Tech3 extends KTM tie into MotoGP’s 850cc era from 2027
Tech3 confirmed at the Catalan MotoGP that it will remain partnered with KTM into MotoGP’s new 850cc/Pirelli era beginning in 2027, ending speculation the French-based squad would switch to Honda. The team announced a new multi-year agreement, the length of which was not disclosed, that commits Tech3 to KTM for the foreseeable future. Guenther Steiner, Tech3’s CEO and the leader of the consortium that acquired the team earlier in 2026, announced the deal in Barcelona after qualifying for the Catalan Grand Prix. Steiner and team principal Richard Coleman said the decision followed months of discussions under the new management. Steiner said, “in motorsport the strongest links are often those you already know inside out.”
Tech3 credited Hervé Poncharal and existing staff for building the foundation that made the extension possible, and noted continuity with KTM, a partner since 2019, will help the squad adapt quickly to the regulatory and technical reset in 2027.
KTM framed the deal as a continuation of an established factory relationship, describing Tech3 as a key extension of its factory effort with technical and operational support aligned to the works team. KTM motorsports director Pit Beirer said the factory was pleased to extend the relationship and that both parties will focus on competing “at the very highest level” from 2027 and beyond. Beirer also told reporters in Catalunya that KTM “will also definitely fight for them” and that KTM and Tech3 are “stronger together.” The announcement did not name Tech3’s riders or a title sponsor for 2027. Sources noted that Enea Bastianini and Maverick Vinales are contracted directly to KTM with options for 2027 and that KTM is waiting to finalize the team’s machinery deal before confirming those riders’ futures. There is ongoing speculation over Red Bull’s future backing of all four KTM RC16 machines, and the five MotoGP manufacturers are still negotiating a next five-year commercial contract with MotoGP SEG, a matter that could influence sponsorship and factory commitments going into the 850cc era.
Marquez Balances Caution and Pace in German MotoGP Win
Marc Marquez’s championship bid has remained a careful balance of pace and restraint. Earlier in the season, reports had him fifth and 40 points behind Marco Bezzecchi, and after Assen he was described as 40 points behind leader Jorge Martin. After a season shaped by late crashes, shoulder and foot surgery, Marquez said he was trying to close the gap without taking unnecessary risks.
That approach carried into Sachsenring, where cold and rainy conditions made patience more important than overcommitting. He arrived as the clear favorite and, in another standings snapshot, led Alex Marquez by 68 points and Pecco Bagnaia by 126. Marquez’s caution paid off at Sachsenring, where he won for the ninth time at the German circuit in MotoGP and moved past Giacomo Agostini into second on the all-time wins list behind Valentino Rossi with his 69th top-class victory. He called the weekend nearly perfect, dedicated the win to Borja Gomez, and said only 11 Grands Prix had been completed, so the title race was still early.
