Lando Norris won the Hungarian Grand Prix for McLaren.

The victory was Norris’s first Grand Prix win of 2026 and McLaren’s first Grand Prix win of the season.

Norris took pole position with a 1:17.207 lap, beating Lewis Hamilton by 0.012 seconds.

McLaren took its first pole position of the 2026 season after a significant upgrade to the car.

Oscar Piastri passed Norris at the start and led early in the race.

McLaren’s strategy and Norris’s stronger pace on used tires helped Norris regain the lead through the pit stops.

Oscar Piastri’s race ended with a gearbox failure while he was running second.

Piastri’s bid for a McLaren one-two ended after a collision with Carlos Sainz while he was being lapped.

Race stewards gave Carlos Sainz a five-second penalty and ruled him wholly responsible for the collision.

Sainz said a problem with the blue-light warning system contributed to the contact.

Sainz apologized to Piastri after the incident.

Max Verstappen finished second and Kimi Antonelli finished third.

Charles Leclerc finished fourth and Lewis Hamilton finished fifth after a five-second pit-lane speeding penalty.

Hamilton had also received a three-place grid penalty for impeding Piastri in qualifying.

Norris said the win was one of his best drives.
