Norris wins at Zandvoort
Lando Norris turned pole position into victory at the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, and the move that decided it came on lap 54. Norris got back in front of Kimi Antonelli on fresher tires, sweeping around the outside of Turn 1 to take the lead for good and secure his second straight Formula 1 win. The pass came after Antonelli had led following the restart, and it gave Norris the clear opening he needed late in the race. Norris said the lap 54 move was “the one that won him the race.” He started from pole and made it count when the pressure rose, holding his line through the race’s final stretch and leaving the rest of the field to chase a lead he did not give back. The result added another win to Norris’s run and put his name at the center of a race that changed quickly at the front once the conditions and the restart reshaped the order.
Verstappen crash forces red flag
Max Verstappen’s race ended on the opening lap when he crashed into the barriers in damp conditions. The impact brought out a red flag and stopped the race before the field could settle into any kind of rhythm. Verstappen said he was OK after the crash and walked away unhurt, but the damage was done to his race. The stoppage changed the shape of the afternoon and handed the leaders a reset once action resumed. Antonelli emerged in front after the restart, which put Norris in position to attack later in the race. The early wreck made the Dutch Grand Prix a test of patience as much as speed, with the opening-lap chaos forcing teams and drivers to adjust fast. Verstappen never got the chance to recover on track after the contact, and the race moved on with the front running order rebuilt around the restart. That left Norris and Antonelli to sort out the win once the race got back underway and the track opened up again.
Mercedes double podium
Mercedes left Zandvoort with a double podium after Antonelli finished second and George Russell finished third. The team later ordered Russell to let Antonelli back through, and that call helped lock in the final order behind Norris. It gave Mercedes two cars on the podium and kept Antonelli in the runner-up spot after he had led following the restart. Lewis Hamilton finished fourth and Charles Leclerc finished fifth for Ferrari, while Oscar Piastri took sixth. Liam Lawson finished seventh despite a 10-second penalty. The finishing order at the sharp end gave the race a clear shape after the late moves at the front, with Norris’ lap 54 pass standing as the key swing point and Mercedes taking the next two spots. Ferrari had both cars inside the top five, and Lawson still landed inside the top seven after serving his penalty. The result sheet showed how much of the race stayed in motion after the red flag, but Norris’ move around Antonelli settled the fight for first.
