Vinales' KTM future
Vinales says his MotoGP future with KTM is still unclear after the company sent him mixed signals about its long-term plans. He said KTM first told him he would have a factory-team place for 2027, then moved him to Tech3, leaving him unsure whether the manufacturer will keep him or release him. He said KTM has given him no clear answer about his role and the situation has left him feeling “in limbo.” The uncertainty matters because KTM holds a contract option through June 30, a window that blocks him from signing with another team until the end of June. Vinales said that effectively keeps him from chasing other openings while the grid is tight and seats are scarce. He also said he would rather retire than switch to World Superbikes if KTM decides not to keep him. At Brno, he said he had turned down another team while waiting for KTM to settle its plans. He added that he learned through media reports that KTM had denied him a test of its 2027 bike at Brno. Vinales said he has stayed loyal to KTM despite having other options, and he is pushing for a firm answer before the end of June.
KTM and Vinales talks
KTM Motorsport Director Pit Beirer said the delay is meant to give both sides more time to judge the best rider combination for Tech3. He said Vinales remains one of the leading candidates for the satellite team if his recovery continues and his performance stays strong. That leaves the door open, but it also keeps the rider market in a holding pattern for Vinales, who said he still has no clarity from KTM. Journalist Manuel Pecino reported that Vinales has been given three more races to prove he deserves to remain part of KTM’s plans. That timeline gives the Spanish rider a short runway to make a case while the team sorts out its own direction. The situation has become a test of patience as much as speed. Vinales moved from Aprilia to KTM’s Tech3 squad for the 2025 MotoGP season and expected to build from there, but the contract situation and the unanswered questions have made the next step uncertain. KTM’s public stance leaves room for a continuation, but it also leaves Vinales waiting for a decision that could shape the rest of his season and his career options beyond it.
Vinales' recovery pace
Vinales’ uncertainty comes while he is still working back from a shoulder injury sustained at the German Grand Prix last July and follow-up surgery in late March. He said the injury and reduced fitness have limited both his results and his riding time, though he said the shoulder is improving. The numbers reflect that struggle. He has scored only six points so far this season. Even so, he showed some pace at Brno, where he was 12th fastest in Friday practice and the second-best KTM RC16 rider behind Pedro Acosta, who was sixth. That result suggests his form is moving in the right direction, but it also shows he still has ground to make up against the leading KTM runner. Vinales said he has remained committed to KTM while other possibilities have been available, and the team’s wait-and-see approach makes his recovery part of the bigger contract picture. He needs results to strengthen his case, and KTM wants proof that he can return to full speed after the injury interruption. The next races will carry weight for both sides as they decide whether the relationship continues or closes.
