McLaren is off to a hot start in the 2025 season and their 188 points is 77 points more than Mercedes, who is No. 2 in the standings. They’re the only two teams with more than 100 points this season.
Lando Norris ranked No. 1 in the standings since he won the Australian Grand Prix, the first race of the season, until Oscar Piastri, his teammate, surpassed him with last week’s win in Saudi Arabia. Piastri has 99 points and Norris 89.
McLaren is the only team that has made podium in each of the first five races. Both drivers have made podium in three of them and Norris and Piastri have combined for four wins.
The worst finish for McLaren was in Australia when Piastri finished P9.
Verstappen Holding Red Bull Afloat
It’s incredible to see what Max Verstappen has done this season. Red Bull ranks No. 3 in the standings with 89 points and Verstappen has earned more than 80 of them.
He won the Japanese Grand Prix and made podium in Australia (P2) and Saudi Arabia (P2). He’s also had two teammates after Red Bull replaced Liam Lawson following the Chinese GP for Yuki Tsunoda, who earned 2 points in Bahrain with a P9 finish.
Ferrari Coming Alive
After accounting for 5 points over the first two races, Ferrari has made its way up in the standings despite Lewis Hamilton’s struggles with his new team after 12 seasons with Mercedes.
Hamilton and teammate Charles Leclerc have earned more than a combined 20 points in each of their last two races with Leclerc finishing P3 in Saudi Arabia. That was the best finish of either driver so far this season.
Hamilton’s best finish was P5 in Bahrain and he also finished No. 7 in Japan and Saudi Arabia.
Mercedes Remains Consistent
Mercedes may not be a home run hitter so far this season, but George Russell and Kimi Antonelli have been a consistent pair through five races. Russell has made podium in three of the five races – P3 in Australia and China and P2 in Bahrain.
Antonelli hasn’t finished far behind and has finished top six in four of the first five races. He’s finished one spot behind Russell in three of them – he finished P6 in the Chinese GP and Russell finished P3. Antonelli’s worst finish this season was in Bahrain at P12.
