With the 2023 Street League Skateboarding (SLS) Championship Tour kicking things off in Chicago, Illinois, we finally got our first look at the new Street League Skateboarding event format.
Here’s what you need to know about the new format, as well as the newly announced tour dates for the rest of the 2023 Street League Season.
New Street League Format for 2023
Chicago was our first look at Street League’s new one-day competition format.
To start, the 2023 tour will feature a mix of hand-picked skaters and rotating roster spots all season long. This approach provides more ways to qualify than ever before and also promises the opportunity to see different skaters at every stop.
Next, each event features a men’s knockout stage. The field for the men’s competition will be now divided into four groups of five with the highest-scoring skater in each group progressing to the final. This remaining field of six will then battle it out in a final round to decide the winner.
On the women’s competition side, the Women’s Final will be pre-seeded, with each event featuring six of the best female skaters.
Each event will conclude with the Men’s final made up of the top skaters from each knock-out round who will also compete against the reigning SLS Champion Gustavo Ribeiro.
And that’s not all – SLS even dropped a video with all of the details which you can watch below.
