Kofoid wins at 81 Speedway
Buddy Kofoid kept his foot down late and turned a tense 30-lap World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series feature at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kansas, into a victory. Kofoid and Ryan Timms started on the front row, and the race quickly settled into a duel between two drivers who could see the lead from the drop of the green. Timms got to the front on lap 5 and spent much of the feature working through heavy traffic, trying to protect position while the field closed behind him. Kofoid stayed in striking range the entire time and waited for the moment when the line opened up. That chance came coming to the white flag, when Kofoid made the decisive pass and cleared Timms for good. He then crossed the finish line first and completed another late-race win.
The race never ran clean from start to finish. A flip by Ryder Laplante brought out a red flag on lap 4 and stopped the action briefly. Laplante was able to climb out of the car after the flip, and the race resumed with Kofoid still needing to work his way through the front end of the field. Timms controlled the middle portion of the main event and did it while sorting out traffic, a situation that often rewards patience more than raw pace. Kofoid matched that patience. He did not force the issue early. He kept pressure on the leader and moved when the opening finally appeared. The result gave Kofoid a hard-earned main event win, one built on timing, track position and a clean finish after the late pass.
Kofoid wins at Pevely
Kofoid followed the same formula at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Missouri, where he won another World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series main event after another late move at the front. Kasey Jedrzejek and David Gravel started on the front row, and Gravel took control on lap 8. Kofoid again settled into the race and waited for the right lane to appear rather than reaching too early and giving away track position. That approach paid off on lap 27, when Kofoid got by Gravel for the lead. The move came deep in the feature, with the closing laps setting up a direct test of composure and speed under pressure. Kofoid did what he had done before. He found the opening, made it count and then kept control when the race tightened again.
The finish brought more work than the pass itself. A red flag on lap 36 after Logan Julien and Hank Davis flipped reset the race and put the lead back under stress. Kofoid had to hold off Gravel on the final restart to secure the victory, and he delivered. The win showed the same late-race strength that carried him at 81 Speedway, with Kofoid staying sharp when the track and the race situation demanded it. Gravel had the lead first, but Kofoid answered with the better closing run. The two victories came in different venues and under different race conditions, yet the pattern stayed the same. Kofoid stayed in range, attacked late and finished the job when the final laps asked for a driver who could close.
