Daytona to host Ford’s military tribute race on Nov. 11

Ford and NASCAR announced the inaugural Proud to Honor Veterans Day Classic, a first-of-its-kind military tribute race set for Nov. 11 at Daytona International Speedway. Ford said the exhibition is meant to honor military members, veterans and their families, and it will come three days after NASCAR’s Cup Series championship finale.

The event will feature 12 drivers split into six teams representing the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force and Coast Guard. Joey Logano, Brad Keselowski, Noah Gragson, Frankie Muniz, Ben Hobson and Logan Sargeant were among the drivers announced. All 12 will race identical Mustang Dark Horse R cars, and the event will also include a Zac Brown Band concert.

Ford said proceeds will go to military and veteran organizations through the Proud to Honor Fund, powered by GlobalGiving. Donations will support Blue Star Families, Camp Southern Ground, Disabled American Veterans, TAPS, Team Rubicon and the Travis Manion Foundation. Tickets went on sale Sept. 14, with early-bird general admission starting at $110, VIP tickets at $305, and a 20% military discount available through GovX. Ford also said it distributed 1,000 complimentary tickets to eligible military and veteran families, and the race is scheduled to air live on a broadcast network, though the network has not yet been announced.

Brady Bacon to replace Kerry Madsen in Vermeer No. 55

Vermeer Motorsports announced that Brady Bacon will replace Kerry Madsen in the No. 55 car for the final 10 races of the Interstate Batteries High Limit Racing season. The change is set to begin this weekend at Lucas Oil Speedway’s Hockett/McMillin Memorial, and Bacon is also scheduled to race for the team at Kokomo, Eldora, Lakeside and Texas Motor Speedway.

Team owner Tony Vermeer said the move comes as Vermeer Motorsports battles Buch Motorsports for eighth place in the standings. Eighth place is worth $100,000 more than ninth place and also affects eligibility for the High Roller Club’s permanent card system.

Vermeer thanked Madsen for three seasons with the team. Madsen’s season in the No. 55 included 21 top-10 finishes in 44 events, six top-five finishes, a podium at Texas and one win at Lucas Oil. Vermeer said Bacon brings significant experience to the program.

Police allegedly put F1 photographer in chokehold at Madrid GP

Spanish police allegedly put Formula 1 photographer Peter Fox in a chokehold and threw him to the ground after he tried to use a passageway reserved for accredited photographers to reach the podium area at the Spanish Grand Prix, several posts and reports said. Fox, who works for Getty Images and Williams Racing, was wearing official team gear and carrying an accreditation badge, and images and video of the confrontation spread widely online.

The incident reportedly happened off-track just before the podium ceremony at Madrid’s new Madring circuit. Fox was unable to photograph the ceremony after the altercation, and one report said some of his equipment was damaged. The exact reason for the police response was not immediately known, and PlanetF1.com said the FIA and Spain’s Policía Nacional had been contacted for comment.

Fellow photographer and journalist Daniel Atan posted a photo of the scene, while another post claimed the officer assaulted Fox as he tried to go where his credentials allowed. Fellow F1 photographer Jamey Price also defended Fox online. The race, the first Formula 1 event held in Madrid, was won by Andrea Kimi Antonelli ahead of Max Verstappen and Lando Norris.

Buffalo gets Cormier, picks; Vancouver gets Antongiovanni, 2026 pick

The Buffalo Bandits and Vancouver Warriors completed an early pre-expansion-draft trade on Monday, with Buffalo acquiring forward Payton Cormier and the 11th and 23rd picks in Tuesday’s dispersal draft. Vancouver received Luca Antongiovanni and the 16th overall pick in the 2026 NLL Draft.

Kelly Slater Surfs Lower Trestles Ahead of WSL Pro

Kelly Slater was featured in a Firewire video filmed at Lower Trestles, where he surfed a Hurricane Marie swell in warm water and boardshorts shortly before the 2026 WSL Trestles Pro. The clip added another look at the longtime surfer at one of Southern California’s best-known breaks ahead of the event.

Farther south, a crocodile estimated at about six feet long was seen in the lineup at Pavones, Costa Rica, on Sept. 13. The surf was mostly empty when the animal was spotted. Costa Rica has seen crocodile-related incidents before, including a serious injury in Tamarindo in 2016 and an earlier contest delay in Esterillo Este.

In other action sports news, the X Games League announced its inaugural winter schedule with stops in Aspen, Calgary and Ruka. The league’s four franchises are XC Golden State, XC New York, XC Park City and XC Whistler. Its roster draft is set for Sept. 16, and more than 100 athletes have been approved for the league, with 40 spots available on the teams.

Kofoid survives Gravel flip, captures El Paso County victory

Buddy Kofoid won the World of Outlaws Rocky Mountain Rumble on Monday night at El Paso County Raceway in Calhan, Colorado, after David Gravel flipped on the final lap while trying to lap Bryce Lucius. The race, which returned to the track after a decade away, featured a late back-and-forth between Kofoid and Gravel before the crash brought out a red flag and sent the event to a restart. Gravel was reported to be okay after the incident.

Gravel started on the pole and led early in the 35-lap feature, while Kofoid set the fastest qualifying lap, won his heat race and started second. Kofoid passed Gravel on Lap 3, and the two traded the lead as the race went on. Kofoid regained control on Lap 32 when Gravel was boxed in by lap traffic, then survived the restart after the final-lap wreck to take the checkered flag.

The win was Kofoid’s 14th of the 2026 season and the 36th World of Outlaws victory of his career, moving him into a tie with Shane Stewart for 23rd on the all-time list. Steven Snyder Jr. finished second for his first career World of Outlaws podium, followed by Chris Windom, Donny Schatz and Spencer Bayston. Gravel’s points lead was trimmed by 34 points to 114.

Oscar Berry tops Joel Vaughan, still misses the cut

Oscar Berry’s bid to reach the Championship Tour postseason ended at the Trestles Pro on Saturday, even though he snapped a season-long losing streak by beating Joel Vaughan in Round 1. Berry had lost his first eight heats of the 2026 Championship Tour and was one of the biggest casualties of the league’s new format, which eliminated non-elimination rounds. The Trestles event was his last chance to earn a win before the postseason cutoff, but the result still left him unable to qualify.

Rossetto matches Leme’s PBR record, trims MVP gap

The PBR Teams MVP race tightened in Anaheim as Paulo Eduardo Rossetto matched Jose Vitor Leme’s league record with 13 consecutive qualified rides and cut Leme’s lead from 95.80 points to 2.55 points. Rossetto powered Missouri’s three wins with rides of 90.75, 90.05 and 87.70 points as the team swept the weekend 3-0.

Grosjean apologizes to Brown after Piastri remarks

Romain Grosjean apologized to McLaren chief executive Zak Brown after saying he had misinterpreted Brown’s remarks about Oscar Piastri during Spanish Grand Prix coverage. Grosjean said in a Sunday evening social-media post that he had “completely misunderstood” Brown and wanted to correct the record after previously suggesting Brown had dismissed Piastri and called Lando Norris the better driver.

Brown had praised Norris’s pole lap on F1 TV and called it an “A-plus” effort after qualifying in Madrid. He also said Piastri had been close to Norris all weekend. Grosjean later said on Canal+ that Brown’s comments amounted to saying Norris was a world champion and better than Piastri, a reading he then retracted.

Grosjean said McLaren was treating both drivers fairly and equally, and he described the team as having the fastest car that day. He also said McLaren had been unlucky with the virtual safety car and suggested Norris and Piastri would have another chance to fight for a win in Baku. In Madrid, Kimi Antonelli won, Norris finished third and Piastri was eighth after qualifying seventh, while Norris and McLaren were hurt by the virtual safety car.
