Haudenschild passes Kofoid late for 50th World of Outlaws victory

Haudenschild milestone

Sheldon Haudenschild won the Federated Auto Parts Independence Spectacular at Cedar Lake Speedway on Saturday night and reached a major career marker in the process. The victory was his 50th in World of Outlaws Sprint Car competition, and it made him the 19th driver to get to 50 series wins. Haudenschild did it in his 685th career Feature start, a number that shows how long he has pushed toward the mark and how hard it is to reach it. The win also gave him his second career victory at Cedar Lake Speedway, where he handled the pressure of a tight late-race fight and came away with another result that adds weight to his season. For Haudenschild, the number carried extra meaning because he grew up watching his father, Jac Haudenschild, race. That family tie gave the milestone a personal layer on top of the record book significance.

Late-race Haudenschild

The race itself turned in the final laps of the 35-lap feature. Three different drivers led before Haudenschild took control late, then he made the move that settled the outcome with two laps left. He passed Michael “Buddy” Kofoid and stayed out front the rest of the way. That closing run gave Haudenschild the kind of finish that defines a milestone night, since he had to earn the win after a race that stayed open deep into the final stretch. Kofoid finished second for the second straight night, and that result moved him into a tie with Carson Macedo for second in the standings. Garet Williamson, Chris Windom and Bill Balog rounded out the top five in third through fifth. The order at the front showed how competitive the feature stayed, but Haudenschild delivered the decisive pass when it mattered most and left Cedar Lake with the trophy and the career benchmark.

KCP Racing Haudenschild

The win also fit into a strong stretch for Haudenschild and KCP Racing. He now has four wins this season for the team, and KCP Racing extended its streak of top-seven finishes to 15 consecutive races. That kind of consistency has kept Haudenschild in position to capitalize when the opportunity comes, and Saturday night gave him another chance to turn pace into a result. His overall World of Outlaws total tells the broader story too. Forty-six of his 50 series wins have come with Stenhouse Jr./Marshall Racing, which underscores how much of his success has come at the highest level with that program. This one added to the list while also showing that he can still close the deal in a different seat. Haudenschild handled the final restart of the race, made the late move on Kofoid and backed it up with the finish. The milestone came with the kind of race craft and timing that have carried him through his career, and it gave him another high point in a season that has already produced multiple wins.
