Williams unveils Union Jack livery for Silverstone

Williams livery

Williams unveiled a one-off Union Jack-inspired livery for its home British Grand Prix weekend at Silverstone, giving the FW48 a red, white and blue look for one of the team’s biggest events of the year. The special design runs through the nose cone and chassis sides and ties the car to the British flag in a way that puts the team’s identity front and center at its home race. Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon will match the car in special race suits, and Williams has also produced a dedicated team kit and a trackside takeover kit for the event. The crew at Silverstone will wear commemorative New Era kit, and fans can buy the same collection online. Williams built the campaign around the British Grand Prix because the race gives the team a direct stage to connect its past and present, with the livery acting as the visual anchor for a wider push across the weekend.

Silverstone history

The Silverstone project also leans hard on Williams’ record at the circuit. The team has won eight times there since Frank Williams founded it in 1977, and the British Grand Prix has long been one of the tracks that defines the team’s history. Williams is using the weekend to spotlight some of its biggest Silverstone moments, including Clay Regazzoni’s first win for the team there in 1979 and Jacques Villeneuve’s 100th win for Williams at the circuit in 1997. The team is also marking Nigel Mansell’s three British Grand Prix victories, another key part of its connection with the home event. Those references give the Silverstone livery more than a cosmetic role. They frame the weekend as a tribute to the results that built the team’s profile in front of a British crowd and helped establish Williams as one of the most familiar names at the venue. The message is clear. Silverstone is not only a home race for Williams, it is also one of the places where the team’s story has been written in some of its most recognizable chapters.

Williams fan push

Williams is taking the Silverstone campaign beyond the circuit with a fan-facing tour and a series of public appearances aimed at widening the reach of the livery launch. The team will take a show car and livery display through Cardiff, Manchester, Edinburgh and London to engage supporters across the United Kingdom. Free fan zones in London will feature appearances from Albon, Williams team principal James Vowles and Damon Hill, giving the campaign a live presence away from the track as well as at it. The timing also matters on the sporting side. Williams entered the British Grand Prix weekend eighth in the constructors’ standings with 11 points and wanted to move back into the top 10. To help that push, the team is bringing a substantial upgrade package to Silverstone in an effort to address an overweight car issue. That makes the weekend about more than branding and heritage. Williams is using its home race to celebrate its past, connect with fans and try to improve its form on the track at the same time.
