  • High Point National sets deep 450 field for June 20

Seth Hammaker Tops 250MX Qualifying at Hangtown, Keeps 13-Point Championship Lead

Round 2 of the 2026 AMA Pro Motocross, the Hangtown Pro Motocross at Prairie City SVRA in Rancho Cordova, saw qualifying set the starting gates and frame expectations for the motos. In 450MX qualifying Jett Lawrence took pole with a lap of 1:49.886, Haiden Deegan was second-fastest at 1:50.389 and Jorge Prado third at 1:50.543. Hunter Lawrence fell during the second qualifying session but still posted the fourth-fastest time of 1:50.797, while Justin Cooper was fifth-fastest in 1:51.014. In 250MX qualifying Seth Hammaker topped the charts with a 1:52.621 lap as he entered the Hangtown weekend 13 points clear in the 250 championship. Ryder DiFrancesco was second-fastest in 1:52.871, Jo Shimoda third in 1:52.950, with Cole Davies and Levi Kitchen listed just behind the top three.

The weekend arrived with key championship and injury storylines shaping expectations for race day. Hunter Lawrence held a six-point lead over Jorge Prado after last week’s season opener. Jett Lawrence remained hampered by a pre-supercross leg and ankle injury. Eli Tomac was sidelined after a crash and Malcolm Stewart was out with a twisted knee. Haiden Deegan had made his 450 debut last week, posting a 5-4 score for fifth overall. Track preparation at Hangtown featured rice hulls that were holding moisture and a revised layout that included an uphill roller, a big middle triple and a larger Fly 150. Morning temperatures were in the 60s with a forecast high near 84.

Press-day coverage and fan previews arrived ahead of the motos. TransWorld Motocross posted two short YouTube videos with rider impressions and a first look at the Hangtown track, presenting the material as preview content rather than race coverage. In WMX action from earlier, defending champion Lala Turner holeshot and crashed in moto one but charged back to pass Charli Cannon on the final lap, with moto two scheduled for today.

Justin Barcia skips High Point to recover from back injury

Justin Barcia will miss this weekend’s High Point National, round four of the Pro Motocross Championship, after aggravating a back injury in qualifying at Thunder Valley last weekend. Troy Lee Designs Red Bull Ducati Factory Racing said Barcia compressed his back after dabbing his leg in a corner, then raced Moto 1 before pain intensified and kept him from starting Moto 2.

The team and Barcia decided to sit out High Point so he can recover. He will spend the next two weeks in rehabilitation under the supervision of the team’s medical staff, and his progress will be closely monitored. Team manager Josh Wisenor said Barcia gave everything he had at Thunder Valley and that the team’s priority is getting him healthy.

Dylan Ferrandis will represent the team in Barcia’s place at High Point. Barcia entered the weekend 15th in the 450 class standings after three rounds, with his best Pro Motocross finish this season a 10th at round two. He is in his 18th Pro Motocross season and previously missed most of Monster Energy Supercross after an opening-round crash before returning for the final three rounds.

High Point National sets deep 450 field for June 20

The provisional 450 entry list for the June 20 UFO Plast High Point National at High Point Raceway in Mt. Morris, Pennsylvania, remains subject to change before race day. The field is expected to be one of the deepest of the season, with Cooper Webb, Eli Tomac, Chase Sexton, Aaron Plessinger, Jett Lawrence, Jorge Prado, Hunter Lawrence, Justin Barcia, Malcolm Stewart, Christian Craig and Haiden Deegan among the riders entered. The lineup also includes machinery from Yamaha, KTM, Honda, Kawasaki, Ducati, Triumph, Husqvarna, GasGas, Suzuki and Beta, along with a substantial number of privateers and regional riders.

High Point National is round four of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship and round 21 of the SMX regular season. The event is scheduled for Saturday, June 20, in Pennsylvania, with points-paying motos set to begin just after 1 p.m. Eastern, or 10 a.m. Pacific. The 250 Class is expected to open the race program, the SuperMotocross paddock will be on site, and race-day coverage will stream on Peacock. It is the 49th running of the Father’s Day classic, officially titled the UFO Plast High Point National, with UFO Plast serving as the SMX World Championship’s official and exclusive plastics partner.

The championship picture tightens in both the 450SMX and 250SMX classes as the series arrives at High Point. Jett Lawrence leads the 450SMX standings after consecutive 1-1 sweeps and a win at Thunder Valley, and he holds an eight-point lead over his brother Hunter Lawrence. Jett also carries a three-year unbeaten streak at High Point Raceway. In 250SMX, Seth Hammaker and Levi Kitchen are tied for the lead, Jo Shimoda is six points back, and three different riders have won the last three races. The Women’s Motocross Championship also returns to High Point for the first time since 2024, with reigning champion Lachlan Turner perfect in the standings and Charli Cannon having led every moto in the title battle.

Lachlan Turner sweeps Thunder Valley for second straight WMX win

Lachlan “Lala” Turner dominated Round 2 of the 2026 Women’s Motocross Championship at Thunder Valley Motocross Park in Colorado, sweeping both motos for the overall win and her second straight victory to start the season. Turner rode a Yamaha YZ250F, went 1-1 on the day, and extended her moto-winning streak to seven dating to last season. She also overcame a crash in moto 2 and a fourth-place start in moto 1, and a 10-point penalty for jumping a red cross flag did not alter the finishing order.

Charli Cannon was Turner’s closest challenger and finished second overall with 2-2 results on a Honda CRF250R Works Edition. Cannon qualified fastest, crashed in moto 1 and raced through shoulder pain, then briefly led moto 2 before Turner repassed her and won by 2.7 seconds. Turner won Friday’s moto by 27.8 seconds.

Taylah McCutcheon finished third overall with 3-4 results on a Kawasaki KX250, earning her first career WMX podium while battling tonsillitis and doing it in only her second WMX start. Reigning FIM World Champion Lotte van Drunen made her U.S. debut and finished fifth overall, while Jordan Jarvis and Piper Bell were among the other top-six finishers. Turner left Thunder Valley leading Cannon by four points in the championship standings, with McCutcheon third, 17 points behind Turner.

Lotte van Drunen enters Thunder Valley, WMX calls it milestone

Lotte van Drunen, 18 and the reigning back-to-back FIM Women’s Motocross World Champion, is set to enter the Thunder Valley round of the 2026 Women’s Motocross Championship Powered by Synchrony at the Toyota Thunder Valley National Presented by American Petroleum Institute in Lakewood, Colorado. WMX Director Christina Denney called the commitment “a milestone for the series.” Organizers expect her presence to affect race dynamics and boost media attention.

van Drunen’s entry will place a two-time world champion directly into competition with regular WMX contenders and shift pre-race storylines toward an international showdown. Lachlan Turner (Altus Motorsports bLU cRU Yamaha) opened the season with 1-1 wins at Hangtown and is pursuing a third straight WMX crown, creating the prospect of a direct matchup. The Thunder Valley field also includes Charli Cannon (Quad Lock Honda), Mikayla Nielsen (SLR Honda), multi-time champion Jordan Jarvis and U.S.-debuting Taylah McCutcheon (Partzilla Blaster Power PRMX Kawasaki). Six athletes from four countries outside the U.S. are entered, a mix that should amplify interest in the round.

The second round is scheduled for June 12–13. WMX will run qualifying and the first 12 Minutes plus 1 Lap moto on Friday, June 12, with warm-up and the second moto on Saturday, June 13. The second moto will air live exclusively on Peacock at 12 p.m. PT / 3 p.m. ET.

Thunder Valley sits above 6,000 feet and is known for its uphill start, elevation changes, big jumps and rut-lined corners. Organizers say those track characteristics should influence bike setup and rider strategy as the international contingent joins the early-season title chase.

Eli Tomac to miss AMA rounds after Fox Raceway neck injury, comeback timeline unclear

Eli Tomac will miss upcoming AMA Pro Motocross rounds after suffering neck injuries in a first-moto crash at the season opener at Fox Raceway, Red Bull KTM said. On the opening lap he collided with Garrett Marchbanks of Monster Energy Kawasaki; Tomac was stretchered from the track in a neck brace, removed on a medical cart and scored zero points in both motos.

Scans and follow-up evaluation showed a hyperextended anterior longitudinal ligament and a partial tear of the left sternocleidomastoid muscle. Team medical staff said surgery is not expected and advised rest and compliance with his doctor’s orders; he has not been given a firm timeline for a comeback.

Red Bull KTM described the move as a short-term, precautionary withdrawal in one release; in a separate statement the team said he would miss the remainder of the season. He sat 41st in 450MX points after Fox Raceway while remaining fifth in the combined SuperMotocross (SMX) standings.

Tomac said he was “really bummed” to be sidelined, intends to return aboard his KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION once fully fit, and Red Bull KTM said it will keep him on the roster while he recovers.

Round 1 at Fox Raceway in Pala opened the Pro Motocross season and produced an early pecking order in 250 qualifying, with Levi Kitchen topping the combined times. Kitchen logged a combined qualifying time of 17:02.837 and posted the fastest lap at 2:22.717 aboard a Kawasaki KX250. The published combined results (two sessions) listed 64 riders and included lap times and machine information for each 250 entry.

The Pala stop also counted as round 18 of SuperMotocross, with points from both series combining toward post-season playoff positioning. Defending champion Jett Lawrence returned for his first gate drop of the season, while former 450 champions Eli Tomac, Chase Sexton and Dylan Ferrandis were identified as primary challengers; Haiden Deegan made his 450-class debut at the event. The 250 class remained unsettled, and the report projected a new 250-class champion by the end of the season.

Coenen twins to contest three AMA rounds for KTM

KTM confirmed that 19-year-old Belgian twins Lucas and Sacha Coenen will contest three rounds of the 2026 AMA Pro Motocross season in the United States as wild-card entries. The brothers are entered for the Thunder Valley National in Lakewood, Colorado on June 13, the Southwick National in Massachusetts on July 11, and the Ironman National finale on August 29.

KTM and Red Bull KTM framed the plan as a coordination between Red Bull KTM de Carli Racing (MXGP) and American Red Bull KTM Factory Racing to give the young riders select U.S. exposure without interrupting their world championship campaigns, and the entries are conditional on how each rider’s MXGP and MX2 schedules progress. Lucas will ride KTM machinery in the 450MX class on a 450, and Sacha will compete on a 250 in the 250MX class. Both riders will remain entered in their respective FIM Motocross World Championship classes while contesting the AMA rounds.

Lucas leads the MXGP standings after five rounds and Sacha sits second in MX2, with outlets varying on precise points margins and win totals. Some outlets noted the Thunder Valley date coincides with an MXGP round in France the same weekend, and KTM said the U.S. plan is intended to fit around the world championship calendar. The announcement followed earlier reports and social posts from motocross outlets and journalists, and Red Bull KTM described parts of the plan as provisional depending on each rider’s 2026 world championship progress. The twins signed a multi-year deal with Red Bull KTM earlier in 2026, both have strong recent form in MXGP and MX2, and both have expressed a desire to eventually race full-time in the United States.
